INVEST IN WELLNESS!

Building Community Wellness at San Marcos High School

This bold initiative empowers the entire San Marcos community to expand healthcare education, enhance student wellness, and build a brighter future. Please join in this revolutionary endeavor.

LOOKING TO THE FUTURE

NOW, MORE THAN EVER, schools must support students with both their academic development and their wellbeing. Schools must prepare students to be both college and career ready, while providing students with the tools and resources to care for their mental health in an increasingly disrupted world.

Building Community Wellness is the $11 Million Capital Campaign to build a brand new Health Careers Academy (HCA) building and upgrade the current San Marcos High School Wellness Center, expanding the school-based mental health services offered at San Marcos High School. The Building Community Wellness Campaign aims to secure approximately $5 million in philanthropic support for the project, as the Santa Barbara Unified School District has already pledged $5.5 million in bond funds to the build and $674,000 in grant funds for equipment.

What We’re Doing

OUR CAMPAIGN GOALS

With the expansion and enhancement of the Wellness Center and the Health Careers Academy, Building Wellness has three goals:

1

HEALTH CAREERS ACADEMY

Construct a healthcare industry-standard facility to house the Health Careers Academy, a program of excellence training much-needed future healthcare professionals.

3

WELLNESS PROGRAMMING

Build physical and programmatic structures that promote collaboration between the Health Careers Academy and Wellness Center, including exploration of new healthcare career pathways.

2

WELLNESS CENTER

Create a wellness complex that will house a comprehensive school-based mental health program for our students.

NOW IS THE TIME TO INVEST IN STUDENT AND COMMUNITY WELLNESS

Community Impact

Demand for healthcare workers will outpace supply by 2025, according to a study conducted by Mercer consulting company in 2021.

California in particular will have a deficit of over half a million healthcare workers according to current projections.

Child and youth mental health has been declared a National Emergency by the American Academy of Pediatrics, American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Children’s Hospital Association, October 2021.
