COMMUNITY
IMPACT
Building an industry-standard program of excellence to train future health care professionals.
THE VISION OF IMPACT FOR STUDENTS
There will be one, de-stigmatized central location on campus where students and staff can get support for their wellness, in all of its forms, at San Marcos High School. (Physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, environmental, financial).
Students will have a dedicated location for non-academic, urgent needs.
Students needing long-term care or therapy will be able to receive that support on campus, in a safe, designated space, both during the school day and after school hours.
Counselors, Clinicians and support groups will be able to proactively interact with students, providing information, safe spaces, and support for students before they reach a crisis.
The Wellness Center will provide a home for students to facilitate peer to peer counseling and other student-led wellness initiatives on campus.
Students will have on-campus role models for various careers in the healthcare field with whom they regularly interact.
Students will have the opportunity to participate in career exploration in various healthcare careers through job shadows and internships supervised by clinicians and experts on campus.
THE VISION OF IMPACT ON THE COMMUNITY
SMHS will house a state of the art facility for training high school students to pursue careers in healthcare careers.
Students, staff, and families in the SMHS community will have easy, centralized and equitable access to essential and integrated health services.
San Marcos High School Wellness Center will be a place where community members can get medical and mental health support after school hours.
The Building Community Wellness project will be a model to other schools and districts throughout the state of how to bring diverse agencies together in a school setting, working together for the benefit of students and the community.
The Wellness Center will be an available space for community-hosted healthcare events, bringing outside organizations and people who would not otherwise interact with SMHS to campus.
Local organizations such as Cottage, Sansum, Behavioral Wellness, and others will see an increase in recruitment, employment and retention of well-trained and motivated local students in much-needed healthcare professions.
